I'm Mark Hauri, principal designer at MH3 Design Group in Plymouth. Our work centers around designing and building luxury outdoor spaces that reflect the homeowner’s vision, lifestyle, and personality. One of our standout projects for the Artisan Homes Tour began with a client who already had a strong vision and had even selected furniture. My role was to bring everything together into a seamless design that created distinct outdoor zones and maximized planting space. This collaboration made the process enjoyable and allowed for a truly customized outcome.

At MH3, we specialize in landscape design-build projects that range from intimate patios to full backyard transformations. One of our clients wanted a 100-foot slide from his roof into his pool—and we made it happen. Whether someone dreams of Caribbean teal waters or a pool that feels like Lake Superior, we tailor each design to that client. The foundation of our process is building relationships. I often spend more time getting to know the person than talking about blueprints. It’s this level of understanding that ensures the space we create is uniquely theirs.

Functionality is just as important as aesthetics. Is the pool for quiet relaxation or for a family of swimmers? We ask the right questions to understand how the space will be used, and we also guide clients through practical considerations like city ordinances and budget planning. Typically, we recommend allocating 20–30% of the home’s value for the pool and landscaping, including components like decking, fencing, and electrical work.

When it comes to construction, both concrete and vinyl are viable options. Advances in vinyl design allow us to replicate almost any concrete look with shorter build times. Concrete may last longer with proper maintenance, but vinyl requires less upfront time and offers flexibility.

Saltwater systems have also simplified pool care, reducing chemical use and making maintenance easier. We offer a full range of customization—jets, waterfalls, live edges, and more—because our goal is to create a personal paradise that fits both your home and your lifestyle.
